Chia Seed
Type: Food
Chia seeds are the seeds of the chia plant native to Mexico, a superfood packed with fibre, omega-3, protein and minerals.
'Chia' is the ancient Mayan word for 'strength', which lives up to its name of strengthening the health of our heart and blood sugar levels, as well as increasing bowel movements.
Though not necessary, it is ideal to first soaking chia seeds for better digestion. Soaked chia seeds can be added to porridge, smoothies, made into chia pudding or sprinkled on top of salads or yogurt. They can also be used to thicken sauces due to its property of absorbing liquid to form a gel.
