Valerian Root
Latin Name: Valeriana Officinalis
Type: Herb
Valerian is a flowering plant native to Europe and Asia, and its root is often used to promote relaxation and ease insomnia.
Its root contains active ingredients called valerenic acid that increases gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels - a brain chemical that regulates nerve impulses of brain and nervous system to promote calmness and tranquillity.
Studies have proposed that the consumption of valerian root helps reduce the time taken to fall asleep, as well as improve sleep quality and quantity. As valerian root causes drowsiness, one should avoid driving after the consumption. The ideal time of using valerian root is right before bedtime.
