Potassium is an essential mineral and functions as an electrolyte. It helps to manage body's fluid balance, regulate nerve impulses and support healthy muscle contraction. Potassium can be found muscle cells, bones, liver and red blood cells.
Our body cannot produce potassium naturally hence it is imperative to consume an optimal balance of foods that are rich in potassium. People with low potassium level in the body may have muscle cramps and aches, heart palpitation and difficultly in breathing. One may feel weak and tired too.
Common food sources include avocado, tomato, banana, mushroom, potato, coconut water and salmon.
