Papain
Type: Enzyme
Found in raw papayas, papain is a type of proteolytic enzyme that helps to digest protein and breaks them down into smaller molecules for better absorption.
Papain is often used to relieve indigestion symptoms, such as bloating, excessive gas and nausea. Other than its role in digestive health, papain is also a natural remedy used to ease symptoms of inflammation and pain, particularly sore throats and shingles (herpes zoster), and promote wound healings when applied topically.
Additionally, it is a natural and effective exfoliator, which can brighten the skin and reduce acne by removing pore-clogging dead skin cells. Papain can be found in skin care products, such as cleanser, scrubs, face masks, and peels.
