Type: Amino Acid, Antioxidant
Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant made using three amino acids - glutamate, cysteine and glycine; and which the body can produce in the liver.
Glutathione helps neutralise free radicals damage and protect body cells from premature degeneration. It also helps recycle and maximise the function of other antioxidants, such as Vitamin C and E.
However, body's glutathione level may be depleted due to imbalanced diet, chronic disease, infection, stress and age. A low level of glutathione compromises immune system therefore it is important to maintain a good level of glutathione in the body by maintaining balanced diet.
Common food sources include sulfur-rich foods such as garlic, onions and cruciferous vegetables.
